Number Study on 84

Spiritual Significance: The number 84 identifies with tribulation.

The famine in Canaan ran from 1879 BC to 1872 BC, a total of seven years:
"And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land" (Genesis 41:30)
The Bible refers to this famine as a period of tribulation:
“Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.” (Acts 7:11)
The Greek word for “affliction” here is thlipsis, which is the same Greek word translated as “tribulation” in passages speaking of the Great Tribulation. Seven years is a total of 84 months.

Judah also went through a period of tribulation:
“Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.” (Lamentations 1:3)
As noted above, the word “affliction” can identify with tribulation. The Old Testament has much to say about this tribulation in Judah and the language is very similar to that of the Great Tribulation in the end times. Judah's tribulation ran from 609 BC to 539 BC, a total of 70 years:
"And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years." (Jeremiah 25:11)
Seventy years is a total 840 months.

We have recently learned that the Great Tribulation of our day will run for exactly 23 years from May 22, 1988, to May 21, 2011. This is a total of exactly 8,400 days. (Please visit the Study on Time Clues to see how these dates have been developed from the Bible).
